The seminar covers topics on advanced discretizations and model order reduction for various systems of hyperbolic equations, with a focus on approximation fidelity, computational efficiency, and rigorous analysis of properties of the methods. Topics include (but are not limited to): 1) moment-based reduction of shallow flow equations 2) entropy-stable discretizations of compressible Euler equations 3) particle-based discretizations of incompressible Euler equations 4) particle-based models for rarefied gas dynamics 5) low-rank methods for rarefied gas dynamics. At the start of the semester, several introductory lectures will be held to provide a general overview of the methods covered by the seminar and to familiarize the students with the possible seminar topics.
