Diversity Statement

Diversity At ACoM, we are committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace that values and respects the unique perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds of all our team members. We believe that diversity will drive creativity and better research.

Diversity comes along multiple dimensions, for instance,

Cultural Diversity: As a research team with global outlook, people from many different countries work at ACoM. Intercultural competencies are therefore in demand every day. Also, many new ideas come from international collaborations and we make use of our cultural diversity in an inclusive environment.

Gender Balance: Women are still underrepresented in leadership and decision-making positions and female student ratios in particular in STEM fields remain disturbingly low. Implicit bias often leads to women being overlooked and their behavior misinterpreted as deficient. At ACoM we work against any gender stereotypes.

Social Background: In many countries and especially in Germany, success in academia correlates with social background. Students from low income, non-academic families struggle with academic habitus, financial pressures, and cultural differences. At ACoM we embrace different life experiences and provide stepping stones for the uninitiated.

LGBTQ+: For us the appreciation of all team members counts — regardless their sexual orientation or gender identity. We encourage the interaction between people with different sexual identities and orientations and their mutual understandings. Everyone should bring themselves in authentically at ACoM.

Equity means fairness and justice and must be added to a diverse representation. We are dedicated to providing equal opportunities for growth, advancement, and success for all team members. Participation is key to building an inclusive culture. ACoM encourages open dialogue, collaboration, and engagement at all levels of the research lab.
