Self-study of scientific content and topics in the field of applied and computational mathematics with a focus on modelling, methods and simulation software. In addition to the mathematical aspects, concrete applications, physical processes and simulation software will also be discussed
This seminar can be done both on BSc- and MSc-Level.
Implementation of computational algorithms into software is a major part of the scientific work in applied mathematics. The seminar will expose the students to, for example, finite-element, finite-volume and Runge-Kutta methods, their implementation and parallelization on high-performance computers using self-written programs and open-source software packages. As a general rule, the student's work has both a theoretical and a programming component. The results of the self-study of the respective topics should be presented in a seminar presentation and term paper.
